CALLING ALL DESIGN DOLLIES HOPEFULS!

you wanna be a Design Dollie?!

our DESIGN TEAM CALL is up, and we want to hear from you!

our first quarter is approaching its end, and while we're going to be VERY sorry to see our fabulous Dollies go, this means there will be a few openings!

Intrigued? Here's what we are looking for:

3+ creative, fun, out-of-the-box-thinkin', hip, interesting, passionate, outgoing crafty people to join us with our weekly challenges.

You must be able to commit to doing one assigned challenge per week (though the option is always there to do more) for a three month term (April - June).

We are looking for people who can spark creativity and are on top of things like deadlines, comments and whatever comes your way!

You must keep an active personal blog where you'll post your projects done for the Dollies.

At the end of this term, new DT members will receive a fun thank you RAK from the founding Dollies.

Still interested? Then email 3 of your FAVE projects that highlight your style, a quick "about me" and why you think you have what it takes to be a great Dollie to our email, designdollies@gmail.com. All entries must be submitted by March 10th, and we will announce our new Dollies on March 15th. The new lineup will go live on April 1, where we'll showcase their talents and fabby style.

If you previously applied during our first DT call, or if you were overjoyed at playing with us during this first term, feel free to send in new projects for review during this new DT call. If you have any questions before you apply, give us a shout or drop us a line via email, and we'll be more than happy to get right back to ya! Can't wait to see the entries!

in other news, i have a blog candy winner!
email me, SHELLY! :) i'm not posting a pic of the goodies until you receive it, so it will be a surprise. :) thanks for the love, girlie! and CONGRATS!

and in OTHER other news, i made some stuff! a couple of things were for next week's Design Dollies challenges, so i can't share 'em yet, but the OTHER was for the Posh Designs Sketch #9 challenge... i wasn't sure what to do with that angled paper, and i had to turn my sentiment to accomodate the orientation of the card, but here we go:

here's the sketch:

this is my first time playing along at Posh Designs, but i really liked the sketch and how it CHALLENGED me! :)

so. it's friday. whatcha doin' this weekend? i'm craftin', and hopefully getting my new Intuos4 all set up! :)

Humble Pie has a FREEBIE for you, and a new WHIFF OF JOY prize!

HIYA!
i wish i had more time to post today, as i have a LOT to say, but let's just get to the point....

today is FRIDAY - new HUMBLE PIE CHALLENGE day! and our Bakers had fun with this one, despite being a little gunshy at first...

on wednesday, our talented Senior Baker Lisa shared a tutorial on how to make an EASEL CARD. these cards are ALL the rage right now, and rightfully so! here's the tutorial, so you can check it out and play along with our EASEL CARD CHALLENGE!

you'll wanna play along for this one, 'cuz of this:

CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE CHALLENGE!
just remember that your projects MUST be created new for this challenge, and you MUST link back to us on your blog post!

in other Humble Pie news, we are VERY sad to say goodbye to our February Guest Baker, Bonnie - she's been FABULOUS to work with, and we've loved having her in the kitchen! Maybe she'll be back for an encore performance sometime. :)

but in GOOD Humble Pie news, the fabulous Zoe has joined us indefinitely! she is now, officially, a HUMBLE PIE SENIOR BAKER! welcome, Zoe! :)

and, let's see......
OH, no, i can't tell you about that just yet. but we will have some WONDERFUL Humble Pie news to share VERY SOON! you may have heard SOMETHING leaked, if you've done any blog-snooping, but stay tuned! it's going to be FABULOUS!

Design Dollies - come and ROCK our Sketch Challenge!

the last challenge of February is UP, folks! this means the trifecta is yours to conquer, and i know some of you have been waiting for this! :)

here's the yummy sketch:

you have until midnight this SUNDAY if you want to try your hand at the trifecta (combining all three of our challenges this week for a chance at all three prizes!), or until next WEDNESDAY at midnight if you're just playing with the sketch. projects MUST be created new for our challenges, and you must link back to Design Dollies in your blog post.

and the prize? well it's a surprise, but it's a good one, i promise!

i didn't play along with this particular challenge, but my fellow Dollies knocked it outta the ballpark! GO SEE FOR YOURSELF!

i have, however, been a VERY busy crafter tonight, so there will be plenty to see next week! :) i'm also planning to hang with my MIL on saturday, and we get cardmake-y together, so it should be fun. i brought my stuff over to her house tonight and that's when the mojo kicked in. 5 days without craftin' was getting me DOWN!

i also got to play a little with my new Tonic scissors (from my BasicGrey Challenges win - thanks, Martine!), and OMG, wowie zowie! i am i lurrrrrrve with these little babies. FORGET the Cutterbee ones - i have been won over! i should have expected that t!m wouldn't let me down. ;)

right. back tomorrow (or, in a few hours, rather) to announce the winner of my 100 followers candy! i have drawn my winner, but i'm gonna make you wait. the brand new Humble Pie challenge goes up in the morning, too! come on back for a visit!

ciao! xo

100 followers candy! REJOICE!

just wanted to let you folks know that i am ONE follower away from 100!

(i know, let's have a party, right? you're throwing confetti as you read this exciting news.)

well i have accumulated QUITE the number of goodies (because i'm an obsessive sale shopper and am not capable of buying just ONE of anything if it's a good deal), and i am going to offer a little sumpin'-sumpin' to one random follower TOMORROW, provided i've hit the 100 mark. :)
***ETA - yay! Jingle is my 100th follower! (welcome, dollface!) there is officially candy!

don't worry about commenting or spreading the word or what have you - i just want to do something nice for the people who visit and notice and comment and encourage - i'm not looking to hand stuff out to a candy-hunter. does that sound bitter or jaded? :D

so come back tomorrow! if you're already following, THANKS! 100 once-perfectly-random-strangers actually read my little thoughts (maybe) and check out my little pieces of handcraftiness. that's just surreal!

vote for the Sketchy Thursdays March guest design team member!

i'm not big on soliciting votes from my friends and readers, but as i'm really excited to have made the final 5 for this challenge, i'm hoping you might drop by and vote for your fave!

SKETCHY THURSDAYS MARCH GUEST DESIGN TEAM CHALLENGE

here's my layout:

for their AWESOME 80s theme, using the colours black, white and hot pink, and this wicked cool sketch:

i don't know if you're supposed to vote based on how well the participants followed the challenge, or just vote for your favourite, but please vote, regardless! voting is only until TOMORROW at midnight EST, so hurry! :)

ETA: Diana, the founder of Sketchy Thursdays, says you just vote for your fave... THANKS, D! :) xo (oh, and go buy her button embellies from her Etsy Shop - they're fabulous!)

Design Dollies kickin' it!

the new ELEMENTS CHALLENGE is up!

and OMG, it was we three founding Dollies for this one. can i just say how ridiculously PROUD i am to be a part of this with Adina and Kristy?

they amaze me. i am humbled by their talent. i love them DEARLY!

and i don't ever want this fun to end! (so thanks, to those who have been so awesome and supportive, and who participate in our challenges!)

the challenge this week is a recipe (to be followed closely, folks!)
1) Three circles;
2) The color GREEN;
3) 2 different kinds of Ribbon; and
4) Inked edges

i had some time to m'self over the weekend and had a BLAST making a mess all over the dining room. it was GLORIOUS! :)
here's the card i made for this challenge:

first of all, do you SEE that gorgeous button flower? OMG, i love the texture it added! i bought a few of these wonderful little beauties from my lovely friend Diana - she has some similar ones in her Etsy Shop, but they're sellin' like hotcakes! she puts a lot of love and thought into these creations, and they're worth every penny! (and they don't COST a lot of pennies, which is a huge plus!) GO SEE FOR YOURSELF!

second, i'm LOVING the new BasicGrey Origins paper. i want to lay it across my bed and roll around in it.

third, COME AND PLAY ALONG! this challenge can be combined with yesterday's Color Challenge, or you can tackle it on its own... but i wanna see what you can do! :)

thought i had something else to share, but it's slipped my mind. oh well - i'll be back if i think of it! i have the house to myself again for a few hours, so i'm off to MAKE STUFF!

Monday, February 22, 2010

Monday is full of... STUFF!

really. just LOTS of stuff to share.
first of all, i have an ear infection. it's thrown off my equilibrium all day, and my jaw is sore and it hurts to chew.
plus it's raining, and that is ALWAYS bad news for my poor noggin and my achin' bones. i've had arthritis in my legs for many years already. i hate to imagine what i'll be like at 60.

second, it's CHALLENGE DAY! Mondays are always Color Challenge days at Design Dollies, so today, i offer you THIS...
Orange, Brown and a Neutral (white, black, ivory, kraft, grey, whatever):

of course, i had to throw my colour in there - i don't think orange has made an appearance at all this month, and this is the LAST Color Challenge for February!

my card:

ALL SCRAPS. and i used my brand, spankin' new Nestabilities Labels 8 die (swoon), my new Stampers Anonymous sentiments (mmmm), and my new Martha Stewart butterfly punch, which i have been coveting for a few months. yay for 50% off coupons! 5 bucks!

so here's the challenge - get your entries in by SUNDAY at midnight EST for your chance to win my Grunge-alicious prize pack! projects must be created NEW for the challenge, and you MUST link back to Design Dollies in your blog post. :) have fun!

and tonight wraps up the February Crop in my Cafe Mom group - there were lots of fun challenges, and i found myself with a little extra time to myself this weekend, so what's a crafty gal to do but GET CRAFTY?!

this one was for the "Pucker Up!" challenge - to incorporate the colours red and yellow, and three images/sentiments/whatever that imply kissing or puckering. my photo, the white lips at the bottom right of the photo, and the words "lips" and "kisses"...

plain ORANGE chipboard letters, sanded down, painted with metallic red watercolours, then coated with glossy accents (they look cooler in person, but i dare you to click to enlarge!)

i'd like to take a moment to express my utter frustration for the 8x8 scrapbooks that really do NOT accommodate 8x8 pages. i've been good about remembering to trim my pages down before getting to work on my layouts, but for this one, i forgot. i ended up having to slice off a good half inch from all sides to get it to fit. ARGH! so i don't like it quite as much as i did when it was originally "finished". meh!

anywho.
we still have our Dollie Call - running until March 10th! wanna play with Dollies? we'd love to hear from you!

and go over to Sketchy Thursdays to vote for your favourite layout, if you haven't already! i'm in the running, but there are some great entries, and i encourage you to vote for your fave of the five! :)

back tomorrow to show you some cards, and to bring you the new Elements Challenge at Design Dollies. there's still time to play along with the Elements Challenge (honouring a special woman in your life) - due tonight by midnight, and the Sketch Challenge - this one was a favourite of mine - due Wednesday by midnight! :)

SATURDAY sweetness!

seriously, folks, I am in the BEST mood... it was another somewhat stressful work week, but on wednesday, i attended a webinar for one of the companies whose stuff we sell, and i ended up being a VERY lucky winner.... on its way to me is a brand new Wacom Intuos4 tablet - i can't WAIT to play with it! i sell these to lots of schools, and i hate it when my customers ask me questions i can't answer. now at least i'll have a bit of experience playing with them, and won't sound so clueless. now i just have to get me some PhotoShop or other drawing program to really be able to test it out!

i also logged on this morning briefly before i began my crafting, and saw that i was the winner of the BasicGrey Challenge #13, for my little hedgie card:

there is an awesome stamp set in there (a Simon Says Stamp exclusive!), some YUMMY Tokens charms, and la piece de resistance... Tim Holtz TONIC scissors! OOOHHHH, i am excited!

today's mail brought me a package from Canada (a belated valentine's giftie from my BFF), containing the tea we can't seem to find here (Celestial Seasonings - vanilla strawberry rose... TO DIE FOR), as well as some scrummeh indian snacks. he is the BEST!! he knows what i like! too bad the card he sent wasn't homemade. ;)

it's crop weekend in my Cafe Mom group, so i'm hoping to get a couple of nifty challenges done... this morning i finished up the last of the February challenges for Design Dollies, and soon we're heading up toward my inlaws' house and stopping at Jo-Ann so i can see if they have packs of PLAIN BROWN CARDSTOCK. i can't seem to find JUST BROWN anywhere, except online, and i'm unhappy about that. i use it more than any other colour, and my lovely English penpal would like me to send her some die-cut flourishes in brown, but i HAVE NO BROWN, except for a few scraps. *sigh*

anyway, if you're looking for some inspiration, go check out our NEW HUMBLE PIE CHALLENGE - it may actually challenge you! ;) we want to see only ONE type of embellishment on your projects this week... and we've got a new linking system, so you don't have to leave your URL in a comment anymore. the prize is the fabulous Umbrella Ellie stamp:

plus an assortment of goodies. and we Bakers at Humble Pie are SUPER excited, because we're going to have some amazingly funnerwool news to share with you soon!

what a fabulous week it's turned out to be!

I wanna play with the Sketchy Thursdays gals!

this here challenge is for the Sketchy Thursdays Guest Design Team spot for March... and i really wanna play with those Sketchies, because they rock, and because i love their style, and because i'm good enough, i'm smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me.

okay, um, Stuart Smalley there, channeling for a moment. SORRY! :)

anyway, here's the challenge (to incorporate an 80s theme/style, and to use black, white and hot pink), and here's the sketch:

OMG, i had FUN with this one! it took a while to come up with a solid idea that i thought would work, but once it hit me, i couldn't stop myself!

i have a series of awesome front-row photos from this show, and while i WANTED to scrap the one taken earlier in the day whilst SHOPPING in Toronto (my friend turned and, literally, exclaimed "holy SH!T, that's Gary Numan!" - walking down Queen Street, shopping just like us - and we asked if he'd mind a couple of pictures), or the one where he was signing my book (and i was wearing a purple wig, silver sequined dress, and tall black platform boots), but this one of him just had more of an "I'm an eighties rocker" feel to it. am i wrong?

("GRRRR! I'm Gary Numan, I'm old and still wear black eyeliner and nailpolish, lots of leather and velvet, and I'm really ANGRY and INTIMIDATING! right?")

the page, in all its glory. song quote - "We Are So Fragile" was always my favourite, and not overplayed like "Cars".

yeah, um, jelly bracelets and Dymo label gun. that screamed '80s to me! splashy/splattery paint. that whole graffiti thing was HUGE. oh, i can't tell you how many times i saw the movies Breakin' and Beat Street. :D

and any cool kid wore safety pins to keep their pantlegs tight at the bottom... or in their ears, or in their noses, or basically in anything that looked edgy. i certainly did! (that made me extra cool, yeah?)

so, there's my big effort for the evening. a total labour of love here, folks! i STILL love Gary, and all the fabby music from the '80s. that's SO my era! :)

i'm a little behind! NEW DOLLIES CHALLENGES!

ahoy-hoy!

okay, so here it is, THURSDAY already, and it would appear that i'm TOTALLY slacking over here!

we have TWO new challenges up at Design Dollies, PLUS a DESIGN TEAM CALL!

the brand new Elements Challenge is a good one this week, folks. we're asking you to share a project that honours a special woman in your life. that can mean anything from a mom or grandmother, special aunt, sister, or a role model like a teacher who really impacted your life in some way... either way, you NEED to GO HERE to see what my fellow Dollies have done with this challenge. some BEAUTIFUL work, seriously!

and today brings the brand new Sketch Challenge... i will be honest and say that this one intimidated me ever so slightly, because i am a single picture scrapper (with what little scrapping i've done), and i was worried i wouldn't be able to squeeeeeeeze multiple pics in a cluster like this:

but i dove right in, scoured through my New Jersey pics (instead of digging out more of the old ones you've been seeing), and found some that i could trim down quite perfectly!

here's what i did with it:

it's a little ode to my hubbin, who is a high school art teacher, musician, and all around amazing talent when it comes to just about ANYTHING. the only time i worry is when he's concocting up some odd dish in the kitchen (using weird stuff like syrup, or odd fruits, or new combinations of spices). but click to enlarge the images, and you can see that he's a potter, he draws (that middle pic is all done in pointillism!) and he paints, as on the decorated guitar. he gets a whole lot of attention when he plays that one at shows and open mics. ;)

yep. i married an artist, and i'm forever amazed by the things he creates. he helped inspire me to get crafty, so i have him to thank for so much of THIS, folks!

join us, and play along with this YUMMY sketch! here's the challenge - you now have our permission to combine all three of this week's challenges, if you're brave enough, or to try any of them on their own!

oh, and did you see that we're looking for some Odd Girls to join a new design team? :) click here! you'll be glad you did! (and don't forget to get the freebie before February ends - she's a cutie!)

Monday, February 15, 2010

looking for some CHALLENGES?! i got 'em!

our brand new challenge is up at Humble Pie! i am anxiously awaiting an order from The Town Scrapper, containing some YUMMY Nestabilities, and our Bakers have really outdone themselves! the challenge?

Use Your Dies! the Bakers all used Nestabilities, which Phebe carries in the shop, but YOU can use dies for the Cuttlebug, Quickutz or Sizzix as well. you don't have to use a Humble Pie image, but we'd love to see them if you have any! :)

CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE CHALLENGE! up for grabs is the lovely Flower Maggie rubber stamp, a Humble Pie/Town Scrapper exclusive! (plus an assortment of goodies to get your project started!)
here's Maggie!

the deadline for this one is this THURSDAY, February 18th at midnight EST. :)

annnnnnnnnd, the brand new Color Challenge is up at Design Dollies! let's see what you can do with this combination:

Lavender, Grey and White or Ivory

our gorgeous Dollies have worked their magic and created some wonderful pieces of inspiration for you! i used the lovely {ippity} birdcage stamp (from Because of You), plus a sentiment from an OLD Clearly Wordsworth acrylic set:

you have until next SUNDAY, February 21st at midnight EST to play along with this color challenge. :)

(just so ya know, Heidi-Dollie sells {ippity}! it's fabulously priced, and the quality is second to none!)

so.
that's my monday morning. play with us in the Humble Pie kitchen, and with the Design Dollies, and you could win stuff!

OH, here's the Color Challenge prize for February:

and with that, i am going shopping! there are SALES, everywhere! WOOT!

Thursday, February 11, 2010

NEW DOLLIES Sketch Challenge - it's YUMMEH!

WOO HOO!
the trifecta is ready for you, folks! whatcha got? :)

we've unveiled the new sketch at Design Dollies, and seriously, i LOVED this. my scrapbook only has three more open spots, and they'll be filled by the end of the week. guess i'm going shopping this weekend! :D

here's this week's FLIPPIN' AWESOME SKETCH:

and my mostly-Sassafras layout:

i am LOVING going through all these fun old pictures of The Son (have i mentioned he's turning 17 this August? - yikes!), but whoa, talk about bringing a tear to the eye! times were tough as i was a single mom, but motherhood itself was so much simpler then. *sigh*

the prizes for the Color Challenges and Elements Challenges have been posted, but you'll have to check out what my Kristy-Dollie will be giving away for this month's Sketch Challenges. i'm sure it's going to be TASTY!! :)

so.
the Color Challenge for this week is up. so is the Elements Challenge. now that the Sketch is revealed, you can choose to do any of these on their own or combine 'em for more chances at the prizes!

annnnnd, i was up late last night playing, and decided to make a card for the Allsorts Challenge for this week... distressing, CHECK! buttons, CHECK! bows, CHECK!

is she not adorable? as for the sentiment, i just couldn't resist. :) happy thursday, folks!

monsta birthday

this was made for Kraftin' Kimmie, but i was a little surprised to see that MANY of the lovely, thoughtful cards that were submitted did not get the attention and praise they deserved.

*checks the comments below*
hmmm.

and for those of you who haven't stopped by to see what the Design Dollies are up to this week, what are you waiting for? the Sketch Challenge tomorrow? both the Color Challenge and Element Challenge are posted, and you've GOTTA see the prizes - they're fabby!

see you tomorrow with the new Sketch Challenge! xo

Monday, February 8, 2010

oh my crafty goomie!

such excitement over here!
let me FIRST share the yummy new COLOUR CHALLENGE at Design Dollies - we have some LOVELY earthy projects to share with you!

the colours:
KRAFT, IVORY and GREEN

i made this with the new prompt at The Creative Type in mind - Using Type in your Embellishments.

lovely sheet music paper (courtesy of Lauren) and the vintage ad paper on the lower half of the card (a piece of the bag which encased the purchased loot that fateful day) from THE GREAT HAUL. random bits of things were cut from magazines, including the Arkansas license plates, the passport stamp, the postage stamps and the elephant. OH, and papers crumpled and smeared/sprayed with distress ink in Vintage Photo. then the whole darned thing was Mod Podged to seal the bits and make it nice and glossy.

i cut up my Unity rubbah alphas and inked 'em up for the very first time. a LONG time ago, i was given this blanket that had strip of fabric tied around it, and i've been using up small bits at a time. that thing must have been 8 feet long. "journey" is stamped on the "ribbon" with Olive Green StazOn, and that awesome little ampersand clip was yet another sweet find from THE GREAT HAUL,

Brads are from K & Company. the arrows are Grungeboard pieces, first painted green with acrylic paint, then stamped with a french script and distressed with the StazOn, then Crackle Accented, like the elephant. and the cardstock is a piece of an old file folder. i am recycle-y!

WHEW!
is it too busy?

so ultimately, it's for today's Color Challenge at Design Dollies (you, too, can play along for a chance to win!), but the colours spoke to me, and warranted a project for The Creative Type.

i also did a page for a challenge in my CafeMom group... i must have been on a mission to use stuff up, because i interpreted the challenge a little differently than others. :) it calls for 20 pieces of patterned paper, and 20 pieces of metal. clearly, i was getting scrap-happy, because the challenge doesn't specifiy 20 DIFFERENT patterned papers! HA!

a big thank you to Melanie for the lovely package of goodies she sent me, including the star charm i used here and a handful of others! :)

the story behind this page has to do with Adrian Belew (of King Crimson fame) and an album he did called "Young Lions" (he and i seemed to be the only ones aware of that album's existence). back in our courting days, the hubbin asked me, by way of a note scrawled inside a little pad of paper with that picture of the lions on the cover, if he could be my young lion. sappy, right? i think he looks rather... feline, in this picture.

i'm thinking i'm missing something, but it's probably because i've been posting like crazy and attempting to multitask, but failing miserably. i'm sure i'll be back. :)

la famille l'Orange, and movement

post today - 'cuz HUBBINS need love too! :)

hubbin (Monsieur l'Orange) and i were just hangin' out, being snowed in and stuff, and when i told him about the challenge/blog hop over at Floral Fantasies, he couldn't resist the urge to get his craft on!

he'd love a shot at the awesome prize, sponsored by Sir Stampalot, and this would give us a chance to get crafty together more OFTEN! i can think of nothing better! :D

so, again, the challenge is "MOVING". he opted for a little poetic inspiration...

here's how the movement works:

and a view of the inside of the card, featuring a feather from my boa! :)

he made this card with his OWN supplies, with the exception of my Zig glue pen and a few pop dots, and, of course, the feather. he's got great taste, no? Cosmo Cricket papers, baby! FOR THE WIN!

and he's said that he may want to do things like this with me more often! he even considered starting a second card last night, but opted to work on music instead. soon, maybe?

go to Brenda's blog (the blinkie is in my sidebar, too) - the projects submitted so far for this challenge are phenomenal, and the DT have some AMAZING samples along the hop! check it out!

movin' right along...

snowed in this weekend - and it's been WONDERFUL! HUBBIN and i were craftin' yesterday, and we BOTH decided to make cards for the challenge/blog hop over at Floral Fantasies... the whole shindig is sponsored by Sir Stampalot, and there are lots of yummies up for grabs.

in honour of their move to a bigger location (woo hoo - upsizing!), Brenda's theme for the challenge is "MOVING". hubbin and i decided to incorporate movement into our projects.

here's mine:

the wheels turn - see? (look where the spokes of the wheels are - kinda hard to show you!)

i had FUN making it, and do you SEE that fabulously gorgeous button embellie? that's my girl, Diana, who sells lots of these and similar yummies in her Etsy shop. go get some! :D

second post forthcoming, 'cuz my hubbin wants to enter the challenge, too!

(click on the link in my sidebar for more information about the hop!)
