time for a little LURRRRRVE at Charisma!

evenin', kids! hope you're all staying warm and dry - it's NASTY outside right now, here in South Jersey, and i was silly enough to go out in this mess to get to the gym. HA! what's normally a 15-minute drive took me easily 45 minutes! yeah, The Boys have no school tomorrow, but i'm still not sure what's going on with work, because i have to go to the other branch for a first aid/CPR class, and the commute is normally just over an hour. a delay or rescheduling would be nice, but we'll see. i hope the weather clears up and the roads are nice when i wake up!

anywho, enough of my drivel.... it's CHARISMA time!

this week, we have the ever-fabulous Simon Says Stamp sponsoring, as well as Digis With Attitude, ANNNND we are giving away a yummy prize pack of embellie goodness from Which Crafts? - there are some seriously gorgeous goodies!

still COLD ovah hee! Some Odd Girl wintry card

okay, it's flippin' COLD here! went down to 9 degrees last night, and our heat was on most of the time while we slept. i woke up STILL freezin'! anyway, i was inspired, needless to say, to make a winter card.

i'm WISHING for spring, but as it's clearly not quite ready to visit, i busted out the very lovely Snowy Mae and put her in some of my favourite colours, and put this clean and simple card together for the
1,2,3 challenge at Cute Card Thursday (1 image, 2 papers, 3 words)....

i seldom play with glitter, especially the flakes, but thought it was appropriate for this particular card. check out the glittah action!

she's also for the "De-Stressing" challenge at Paper Sundaes (LOVE that Old World paper stack, and i've given my edges some ink and shreddin')

annnnnnnd, that's about all she wrote for today, folks. i have a busy week ahead of me, and now the hubbin and i are going grocery shoppin' so we're ready for the onslaught!

did i mention i got a raise? YEE-HAW! it's small, but it's the principle of it, and i'm thrilled. now to address the possibility of a promotion.....

hope you've all had a fabby weekend, crafty friends! xo

still time to win my NERDY candy!

Some Odd Girl wants to see the following elements...

OKAY! continuing along with Some Odd Girl's fantastic and insanely fun ANNIVERSARY WEEK, we have another challenge for you that gives you LOTS of room to play!

pick your elements! we have a big list for you to choose from...
Shaped Card (any shape but square or rectangular)
Organza Ribbon
Misting/Masking
Embossing (wet or dry)
Orange
Doodling
Die Cut
Glitter
Ink
Ric rac
Layers (at least 4 on your creation)

we want you to incorporate at least THREE elements from the above list into your project, and believe me when i say it's totally a PIECE OF CAKE!

i decided to have a go with the very sweet Fluffy Love image (an oldie but a goodie!), and i racked up the elements here....

so i used Shaped card, Organza ribbon (it's stretchy, and SO fabulous!), Embossing (yay, houndstooth Cuttlebug folder!), Orange (natch!), Doodling (stitched border), Die cut, Glitter, and Ink (the embossed piece - i inked the inside of my Cuttlebug folder before putting the paper in and running it through the machine - totally FUN technique!). that makes EIGHT (!!!!) of the 11 elements!

you can TOTALLY rock this, and you can totally get in on the awesome action over at the Some Odd Girl challenge blog. there are PRIZES! (helllooooo, Cosmo Cricket!) there is lots of fun to be had! and there's LOADS of hot inspiration over there, so CLICKETY CLICK and join us!

Charisma sponsored by SOME ODD GIRL - win yummies!

okay folks, time for another fabby Charisma Cardz Challenge... i love that our themes are always so different, and today, we are playing with MAGIC NUMBAHZ! :) er, NUMBERS.

this means that a number or numbers should appear on your project (extra points if they do tricks or grant wishes!) - front and center! (no points for people who say "there are three birds on my project, so my magic number is three" - just sayin'!)

know what's awesome possum about this one? our Charisma challenge is sponsored by none other than SOME ODD GIRL! three digis - winner's choice! and Lili of the Valley is also sponsoring - £10 for one lucky winner to spend in their store!

my magic number for this card is 29 - the age my sister-in-law will be this April for the 10th time! this is a joke she and i share - last year i gave her a happy 29th card, so i think i'm going to have to make this a tradition. she says she loves having an older sister - ha ha ha ha ha ha! what a funny girl! :) anywho, the card:

that little porky dude is "Flyin' Pig" - an early release from SomeOddGirl.com - and i think he's going to come in handy for punny cards for many years to come! :D

the inside:

hee hee! seriously, i have too much fun with my craft. :) i think my sis-in-law will get a giggle, and i can see myself re-making this card in lots of different styles for the next craft fair!

wanna play along? CLICK HERE to see what the rest of the Charisma Gals have done with this challenge - some GORGEOUS samples from my uber-talented teamies! play along and you could win yummies from Some Odd Girl or Lili of the Valley, and best of all, you'll be in excellent company! we Charisma Gals love to see what you've got up your crafty sleevies, and we can't wait to see your Magic Numbers entries! you have until next WEDNESDAY to play, with a newly created crafty item, and a link back to Charisma from your blog, so whatcha waitin' for? :D

P.S. - there's fun stuff to be won ALL THIS WEEK at the Some Odd Girl blog, as we're celebrating our first ANNIVERSARY! some of us Odd Girls have candy for you to win, and there are some delish little packages from a few FANTASTIC sponsors! CLICK HERE to check it all out!

in Leah news...

the job is going WONDERFULLY. i can't say enough great things about this company, and i couldn't be happier!

tomorrow morning, my manager and i will be going over my goals and objectives for this year. i'm HOPING there will be talk of promotion and what i need to do to be READY, or whether or not i'm in the running for the position. fingers are crossed, 'cuz this is the job i originally applied for (and for which i was already qualified, honestly) and i KNOW i could rock the position! :)

today, i was involved in a marketing photo shoot. not sure WHERE my mug will be appearing, but it could be on our internet, or it could be in magazines or brochures. either way, i will be one of the main faces of our company, and it's exciting!

the Vice President was also visiting today, and she informed me that she wants to PURCHASE my word art for the branch...

so exciting! my canvases will be on display for all to see! ANNNND not only does she want this set, but she wants me to make sets for the other branches, and i'm being commissioned to do them! 'cuz i NEEDED another reason to want to bust out my Mod Podge, right? :) guess i'm going to see which friend wants to make me some Cricut words - hmmmmm. :D

going to see the Flyers vs Senators tomorrow night (tonight, technically, as i'm still up!) with my fellas and the Sis-In-Law and her hubbin-to-be. i haven't been to a good ol' hockey game since TENTH GRADE! should be fun, and i'm looking forward to the foodstuffs!

erm, let's see... other news? The Son got a new job, so i'm thrilled to say goodbye to those OTHER jerks. they messed with his schedule and did NOT fulfill their commitment to his school program (they had agreed to 16 paid hours per week - there were some weeks he worked THREE hours), so now he has hours to make up at the new place if he wants to graduate. this is a HUGE relief for my leedle fam, because now he can start saving up a REASONABLE amount of money for his car/insurance... he goes for his test next month, so his expenses are gonna skyrocket!

i still need a photo printer, and i think this, and a netbook, are currently topping my priorities list for 2011. and i have a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet (brand new, still in the box) that i'm looking to sell. anyone interested, or know someone who might be? we can negotiate! quiteorange@yahoo.com

annnnnd i really really REALLY wanna check out the goodies at winter CHA, but will sit tight and hold my breath and wait for the summer CHA green light. :)

and that's all she wrote (on this particular evening)... come back in a half hour when our Charisma challenge goes live!

we are CELEBRATING one very ODD year, and i'm giving away some coffee!

ONE YEAR!
today is the OFFICIAL one year anniversary of
Some Odd Girl,
and WOOT! we are HOPPIN'!

so i shared my fave Kaylee cards, but if you were to ask me which Some Odd Girl card i've made is my absolute favourite, i think i'd have to say it's this one...

it was for a "3 or more images" challenge on the Some Odd Girl blog, and i was entirely too pleased with how this one came together. i was happy with my colouring, my layering, the papers, the doodles, and ESPECIALLY the way i placed the images for depth. check it out:

i had so much fun making it, and i almost hated to sell it at the craft fair last month, but i hope it went to an appreciative recipient. ;)

believe it or not, THIS was a big part of what kicked my dear Kristy-Holmes-Dollie in the pants, and what started the fabulosity of Some Odd Girl:

weird, right? well the image of the girl was the very first drawing of Kristy's that was put to rubbah, and Adina sent it to her as a gift (but not before i had the chance to ink it up and make something!). yes, there was some scheming going on, but we were convinced from the getgo that she had a true TALENT, and we were determined to see it put to good use!

a year ago today, SomeOddGirl.com was launched, with a shopping cart and 35 images, and THIS little lady made her big debut into the crafty world:

she's changed a little since her birth, but overall, she's still the same sweet Kaylee we've all come to know and love! and now she's got more friends than she can count, a huge following, and a very LOYAL fan in me! :)

today, we Odd Girls are sharing our favourite projects, and there may just be some goodies to be won along the way! drop by and visit all of the Odd Girls (start back at the Some Odd Girl challenge blog so you don't miss anyone, or if you've come to me from Kristy's blog, then Kimmy's place is your next stop!). here's the order for quick reference...

Kristy
Leah (you are here!)
Kimmy
Robin
Marcie
Cassandra
Robin F
Yvonne

finish things off by leaving a comment back at the Some Odd Girl challenge blog, and *I* will be giving away the entire set used in my favourite card up there. :) make sure you leave comments for ALL of the Odd Girls in order to be eligible, and HAPPY HOPPIN', friends!
(if you already own any components from the above set, we'll negotiate!)

happy anniversary, Some Odd Girl! and Kristy, i am SO incredibly proud of you, and i love you!

Some Odd Girl celebrates its first birthday! fabby prizes!

ONE YEAR! Some Odd Girl is one year old!
we are celebrating anniversary week with LOTS of fun stuff, and we hope you'll join us!

first of all, HERE's where you'll find all the good stuff for our kick-off...

we are offering a HUGE, yummy pack of goodies, kindly
donated by our first sponsor, the wonderful

we also have a $50 gift certificate generously donated by

one of Kristy's local shops, and her go-to place for COPICS!

today, we bring you the schedule for this week, and you can visit and participate in any of the challenges for lots of chances to win! but today, a QUESTION for you. we want to know WHICH of the Some Odd Girl characters is your fave, and why! answer the question OVER HERE, and if you spread the word about Some Odd Girl's anniversary, you'll get more chances to win!

tough for me to choose just one fave, as i have a fondness for all things SOGgy (hee hee)... but Kaylee was the first SOGgy character i set my happy little eyes on, and i think she'll always have a special place in my heart.

here's a little spotlight on Kaylee, as told by Leah the Orange....

my first ever Kaylee card, made for a Design Dollies challenge - this is Lounging Kaylee

this is Head in The Clouds Kaylee - my card for our first Blog Hop

this one's '50s Kaylee, on a card i made for one of our Digi Days at PCP

this one is Hula Kaylee - doesn't she look foxy with a tan?!

this is Sweet Kaylee, on one of my absolute fave SOG cards to date!

and my most recent Kaylee card:

this one is Sign Kaylee - i LOVE that you can customize her little note,
and check out those SHOES!

the theory that's shared between me and my Dollies is that Kaylee is me, while Mae (Kaylee's best girliefriend) is Adina - they seem to match our personalities quite well! :) not sure if this is true or what INSPIRED our Kristy to create these wonderful little characters, but we certainly love her for it!

it's been a fan-flippin'-tastic journey so far, and i KNOW that you'll be seeing Some Odd Girl popping up all over the place, so i'm just thrilled to be able to say that i've been with "the project" since its inception, and by golly, i ain't goin' anywhere. :D

join us while we celebrate this week, and i hope you fall in love with the SOGgies, just like i have!

you wanna "work" for Scrapbook News and Review?

SNR.

what an awesome gig, seriously. it's a great website, with LOADS to share and learn with fellow members and subscribers. people are insanely helpful and encouraging, and believe me when i say that if you're wondering about a product or technique, or you're on the fence about TRYING something new, there IS somebody on staff who has the answer!

so do you want to be a STAFFER for Scrapbook News and Review? it's an online magazine and full-on community for crafty types, and even for those who lean more toward fine arts than crafts.

CLICK HERE to check out the Staffer Call, which is going on NOW through February 4th. you don't have to be a genius or expert or totally knowledgeable - you just have to be open-minded, pay attention to detail, and be able to meet deadlines. contribute to the areas that interest you (there are MANY, including scrapbooking, stamping, card making, product reviews, articles, mixed media, etc...), and BE PUBLISHED! the exposure alone is fantastic!

my gig there started out after i was invited to be a featured artist, and everyone has been wonderfully welcoming and patient with me. i know that i have a lot to learn as a crafter, and these people are definitely FABULOUS to have in my court! i've loved contributing, and sharing, and learning, and GROWING. there's lots of room for growth - both within the mag, and as an artist!

whatcha waitin' for?
peek around and see what kinds of things you might expect - there are crafters of all skill levels, and everyone is absolutely encouraged to try new things and share what they've learned (even if the project turned out to be a flop!).

get in on the action, and apply to be a STAFFER for SNR! :) i'm there, and so are some of my fave blogger folks. i guarantee you'll know a TON of people in there (some may even surprise you!).

right. now i'm off to bed. but if you're not going to apply for a Staffer position, at least submit your artwork to be considered for publication in the mag! the calls ROCK! and, well, the folks in charge? they rock IN THE BIG CHAIR! :D

Monday, January 10, 2011

busy? busy? BUSIER!

annnnnnd my week just got a little crazier. looks like i'll be putting in a bunch of overtime! forgive me if i'm not around as much as i'd like to be, darlings! the new year has kicked off all around me, and i've always said that the best way to learn is to jump right in! i have dove in, head first, and it's a DEEP POOL!

sending you all lots of love, and hope you have a wonderfully crafty week! :D i'm not sure how much time i'll get to squeeze in for craftin', but i hope there's at least a little!

xo

remember the CANDY?! WINNER and new candy!

since i have a NEW batch of candy i'm gearing up to give away, it's time to announce a winner for my OTHER CANDY...

200 followers! and many of you have left such sweet comments - i'm thrilled to have you joining me here, and i hope you'll stick around (although i gained and lost a follower while i slept last night - weird!).

congratulations to the very lovely
JULS!

she's been with me here for a long time, and i'm a huge fan of her blog as well! Juls, thanks for leaving so much love on my pages, darlin'! would you mind sending me an email at QuiteOrange@yahoo.com with your mailing address? i can't wait to get these goodies off to you!

and yeah, if you missed it, i'm giving away NEW candy at THIS POST - read through, leave a comment, and don't forget to wear the Envious badge proudly on your blog! i'm giving away candy for every new 25 followers there - not to mention the hot prizes you could win if you play along! :D

WELCOME TO THE NEW DESIGN DOLLIES! here's our first challenge!

it's that time again!

WOO HOO, what an exciting year it was for the Design Dollies!

we kicked things off in October 2009, LEAPT onto the scene in 2010, and ended the year with an amazing team, loads of participation and support from our fellow crafters and bloggers, and we all learned so much from each other and grew closer, making new friends along the way. i suspect some of us will be LIFERS!

today, we kick things off for the new year, and we are THRILLED to introduce our brand new Design Dollies! it was SO difficult to choose our team from the amazing applications we received, but i think it's going to be an exciting term, and i KNOW these gals are going to inspire the glitter off of you! ('cuz we all know how difficult it is to get that stuff off!)

thank you SO MUCH to all who showed interest - we were very humbled by your kind words and your amazing talent!

CLICK HERE to meet the new Design Dollies
for the January-June 2011 term!

and let's start things off with a brand new challenge, shall we? in usual Dollies fashion, we have a COLOR challenge for you to start this round, BUT, we are changing things up a bit. we'll still be bringing you weekly challenges, and we wouldn't deprive you of the TRIFECTA (of which many of you have seemingly become quite fond!). HOWEVER, we're hosting one challenge per week - each Monday - with the fourth week giving you the TRIFECTA fix! and don't worry - there will still be lots of nifty prizes for the taking, and we can't wait to start sharing the love!

here's your first COLOR challenge for 2011, as set by the very lovely KarenB:

LOVE this combo! so, so versatile, and i swear i could have created a DOZEN projects for this challenge! in the end, i decided to play with a couple of my trusted little MUSHES dudes from Some Odd Girl for this humble little card:

(dig that funky blue patterned paper? it's the inside of
an envelope from a BILL i received last month!)

wanna see what the rest of the gang did with this challenge? wanna play along? CLICKETY CLICK! you have until next SUNDAY, January 16th at midnight EST to get in on the fun. your project must be created NEW for this challenge, and these MUST be the predominant colors in order to qualify for the first prize of the month... wanna know what that is? hmm, i'll have to get back to you on that one. ;)

Sunday, January 9, 2011

feeling ENVIOUS?! wanna win? wanna be a NERDY GIRL? want CANDY?

it's a new year, and we Nerdy Girls have worked our magic to inspire you once again...

2011 promises to be a great year for Envious, and January kicks off with a HOT collage, plus an AMAZING prize, sponsored by the fabby Candy Shoppe Designs!

here's our first collage to inspire you...

totally HOT, right?
the "new perspective" theme was quite popular amongst us Nerds, and it was perfect to kick off my 2011. first art journal page of the year (simplistic in design, with a surprising amount of journaling, which is not my usual approach):

annnnnd, there's more! you want the good news or the better news?

okay, the good news - there are already 2 entries for this month! we just need 3 more people to play along, and we will be giving one lucky winner a hot prize from Candy Shoppe Designs! the last couple of months have shown us some FABULOUS entries, but nobody won the prize, as we didn't hit 5 participants. COME AND PLAY WITH US!

oh, and the BETTER news? we are looking for some more NERDY GIRLS! CLICK HERE for the deets - Lynnette is a wonderful headmistress and we have a great team. the collages are always lots of fun, and you can create whatever you'd like - scrappy pages, cards, altered art, journal pages, you name it! it's SO easy!

care to help spread the word? wear our ENVIOUS badge proudly and i'll be on the lookout (just leave me a comment saying you're donning the badge). we're at 145 followers at the time of this post, so for every 25 new followers we get, i'll be giving a little somethin'-somethin' away. not telling what, but i happen to have a nice little stash of Ranger products in a giant bag here. :D i'll wrap this up on the 7th of February, when our next challenge goes live.

Club Anya and CPS sketches, plus CCT

YES, i got to make a couple of cards today, and i am SO thrilled that they weren't just the usual DT assignments! i'd been meaning to play along LAST week at CPS but didn't quite make the deadline, what with the branch opening and working some overtime, so i jumped on it this week and it turned into a productive weekend (with lots of sleep!).

first, here's my card featuring KOALA, from Some Odd Girl... i've had this little dude for a LONG time and it's the first time i was brave enough to colour him (i am NO GOOD when it comes to colouring FUR! but i like his shiny little nose!):

(the sentiment is cute, right? RIGHT?!)

i WANTED to add him to the collection of cards for Some Odd Girl's Digi Day challenge (which was to make a valentine WITHOUT using red or pink as dominant colours), but was late to the party, because The Son had a second interview this afternoon and i was out WAY longer than i'd anticipated. he did, however, land himself a shiny new job, and i couldn't be more pleased!

anywho, here's the CPS sketch (#200) i used:

simple, but totally up my alley!
i'm also playin' along with Cute Card Thursday for this one - their theme is "Out with the Old" - not only have i been sitting on this image, but the BasicGrey ORIGINS paper has been begging for some attention. :)

and i've wanted to play along at Club Anya for ages, but had forgotten my login on The Greeting Farm's Galleria - somehow it came to me today, and i LOVED the sketch, so i couldn't wait to bust out the Prismas and colour this lovely little lady up:

based on this sketch (with a little bit of tweaking, because i'm not big on cards without sentiments):

(i lullz a little, 'cuz it says "sketcy" and that's just kinda cute!)

totally LOVE the round cards, and i bought a bunch more at Michael's from their dollar section, so i just had to jump on the challenge! plus it's been cold and snowy here (again), so i thought this was a rather appropriate card for the occasion. time to light some candles!

tomorrow, we introduce the new Design Dollies to you, and launch the 2011 challenges, complete with a new format! it's gonna be GREAT, folks! stop by and see what we're up to, and play along with our FIRST Color Challenge of the year! :)

Makin' it COLOURFUL with warm or cool colours! PRIZES to be won!

the Colour Addicts have kicked off!

it's been a long time coming, and today marks our very first challenge for Make it Colourful, the lovely Zoe's newest endeavour. there has been a lot of time, love and labour put into this project, and we Colour Addicts are THRILLED that today has finally arrived! for our very first challenge, we're giving you a CHOICE...

we want to see you create something
using a WARM or COOL colour palette!

you can create anything you'd like - cards, ATCs, altered art, collage, scrapbook pages, journal pages, you name it! all you have to do is COLOUR something, and you're in the running for some FABBY prizes from Make it Crafty!

while i love lots of cool colours, warm colours seem to have a magnetic pull for me, so i opted for that combo... yummy reds and oranges and warm, sunny yellows - certainly nice to think about during a very COLD winter here in South Jersey!

here's my card, using the oh-so-sweet Fluttering Sapphire (minus the wings - i didn't like the green on my card, so i snipped her!):

here she is up close:

(i think i had something a little more EARTHY in mind when i coloured her, but these papers and flower embellies just leapt from my stash when it came time to put my card together)

and some fun Unity goodness:

you KNOW you wanna see what the rest of the Colour Addicts have done with this first assignment, so CLICKIE CLICKIE to check 'em out! seriously, this is an AMAZING team - so talented, unbelievably creative, and we've got a great vibe goin' on! we hope you'll play along, whether you're using a Make it Crafty digi/rubber stamp or not. everyone is welcome!

so spread the word, folks! we are here to COLOUR YOUR WORLD!

OH, and check out my deets HERE if you're curious about what makes an Orange Girl like me tick! :D
